 2018 Preview 


       Hazel Green finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Hazel Green finished sixth in Class 6A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Trojans lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The Trojans have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018.

       Since 2010, Hazel Green has gone a combined 39-43. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hazel Green has not won much with a record of 82-162. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 6A and 317th in the AHSAA.




       The Trojans will be under the direction of new head football coach Smitty Grider as they enter the 2018 season.

       Coach Grider's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 107-42 (71.8%). His 107 wins rank 52nd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Grider's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won four region championships.

       The Hazel Green Trojans will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2018 season.

       The Trojans enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Trojans if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just 2 wins last year, Hazel Green will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

       The Trojans open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Grissom on Friday, August 24 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Grissom Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in eighth place in Class 7A region four. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brewer by a score of 26-24 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Hazel Green and Grissom have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 8-14-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Hazel Green winning by a score of 49-7.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
